THE MARTIAL ART SYSTEMS OF THE
TSG INTERNATIONAL BUDO ASSOCIATION

Tsu Shin Gen - Senshin Karate is a modern and realistic system which has been developed by Soke David C. Cook 9th Dan who has 40 years experience of teaching Budo. The TSG – Senshin Karate system is built around 10 newly developed Kata that contain realistic and effective fighting combinations. These combinations are suitable for various forms of fighting and also self-defence. Unlike most traditional systems these Kata are always practised with a Uke (training partner). The system is designed to be suitable for a large range of students; children and adults, male or female, people training for fitness and as a hobby, and serious students of Budo.

The Tsu Shin Gen - Mixed Martial Art is a system that Soke Cook started developing in 1995. The Basics, Fighting Drills, Grappling Drills and Fighting Combinations together contain most aspects of “allround fighting”. This system is built on a ratio of approximately 75% standing fighting, similar to Kickboxing or K-1, and 25% grappling. The system includes punching and kicking to the head and body, throws, takedowns and grappling. Such tournaments as Extreme Fighting, Pancrase, Pride, the UFC and Vale Tudo etc. have proved how effective a mixed martial art can be.
The throws (Nagewaza) and grappling (Newaza) have been chosen for students who prefer standing fighting. The students learn to punch and kick first and if necessary take their opponent down to the floor and “finish the fight” with some suitable technique.
Just as with the kicks and punches, a couple of new throws are taught for each grade and the same applies to the joint-locks (Kansetsuwaza) and strangles & chokes (Shimewaza). The basic hold-downs (Osaekomiwaza) are spread out through the first couple of grades.

The Tsu Shin Gen - Kickboxing training is built around realistic and effective fighting combinations. The combinations are suitable for various forms of Competition, for example K-1. Tsu Shin Gen - Kickboxing is taught with the help of TSG Fighting Combinations. Apart from the competative Kickboxing training it can also be trained to music as a fitness activity. Some Gyms have adopted this form of training as a complement to their other group training activities.

Ashihara International Karate is the system which was originally developed by Kancho Hideyuki Ashihara 10th Dan. Soke Cook’s path from a traditional Karate style, Kyokushin Karate, to a less traditional style, Ashihara Karate, to a more modern style, Ashihara International, has one thing in common - application (Bunkai).

When he first came into contact with Soke Ruiz, 10th Dan, in the USA in 1982 one of the things that impressed him most was Soke Ruiz’s knowledge of Kata Bunkai. Having trained Kyokushin Karate where Bunkai of Kata was not a well developed concept, he was impressed by the ability of Soke Ruiz to go back to the roots of the Kyokushin Kata and demonstrate the original Bunkai of the Kata.
Therefore when he developed Ashihara International from the Japanese Ashihara Karate, he was determined that all the techniques of every Kata could be performed with a training partner (Uke). This made the Bunkai automatic because the students learnt the Kata in the Bunkai form and this is thanks to the influence of Soke Ruiz.
Together with the help of his good friend Soke Dave Jonkers from Holland they made this system very popular.

Kyokushin Karate is the system that was developed by the legendary Sosai Mas Oyama 10th Dan. Kyokushin Karate is a system that is famous for its tough fighters. It was the first Karate system that incorporated low kicks as a main part of the system.

Soke Cook spent fourteen years with Sosai Mas. Oyama's Kyokushin Organisation. He is the author of the two excellent books based on the Kyokushin Style - Power Karate, Volumes I & II.

In 1977 he was one of the first two Europeans to complete the 50 Man Kumite. (Fifty rounds of full contact Kyokushin Knockdown fighting, two minutes each, without any rest periods)
At one time he was a Kyokushin Branch Chief and the Chairman of the Swedish Karate Kyokushinkai.

We hope to hear from you soon!
